Locket Purse

I’ve always loved the concept of lockets as holders of memory. I also am drawn to the interactive element of their opening and closing, each a portal into a different image.

Locket Purse is a purse covered in collected lockets. Each locket contains an image of my friends’ or families’ pets. Locket Purse was created as a bridal accessory for my wedding day. Once guests were seated, the purse was passed around and guests peered inside each locket, looking to find their beloved animal. What was an ordinary object became a cherished piece of sentimentality and an altar of love to our dear pets.

Locket Purse is currently on view at the reCreate Gallery at the Resource Exchange in Philadelphia.
